Nearly 50 percent of women say they cannot live without make-up.
Whether you’re dependent on your lippy or you just want to feel yourself while travelling, you need to know how to go travelling with makeup.
Of course, you can’t just bring your whole make-up collection on the flight. The rules around liquids can be extremely strict so you need to cut down your make-up to the essentials.
But also, you need to avoid any broken bottles of perfume or crushed compacts of powder. Follow our tips below to learn more about how to pack makeup for your vacation.
1. Samples Can Be Your Savior
Next time you go shopping, remember to ask at the makeup counters for samples of products.
Whether you purchase a product or not, most makeup brands are willing to offer you a taster of the foundation or free moisturizer.
For many women these samples are forgotten in the bottom of handbags and the back of the makeup cabinets.
However, if you’re a savvy traveler, you’ll save them for your next vacation. They are perfectly travel size!
2. Decant Into Smaller Containers
For the makeup essentials which cannot be replaced with samples, you need to bring along small containers. You can either buy travel containers or reuse old product containers.
Make sure you calculate how much you’re going to need over the trip. You don’t want to leave yourself without makeup for your last night on vacation.
If you want to be environmentally friendly, then you should choose to reuse containers and bottles when they are emptied.
You can also get creative. For example, a washed contact lens case can be used to store your lip balms. While an old jam jar can be repurposed as a container for your moisturizer.
3. Multi-Purpose Makeup
If you want to keep your bag light while travelling, then you could bring makeup which could be used for multiple purposes.
Do you normally have a concealer, contouring shades and highlighter in separate containers?
You can alternatively just carry a palette which includes all of the above. Then, you’re cutting down your three products to one.
4. Don’t Mix Your Makeup Together
Now you’ve got your beauty products together, you don’t want to put them all together in the same place in your luggage.
Organize your items to prevent problems while you’re in transit. Pack your makeup items in the middle of your luggage to protect them from any impacts.
You don’t want to mix your items too much. For example, if your perfume is in the same plastic bag as your toothbrush, you could be left with a weird after taste.
5. Cushion Your Fragile Items
If you’ve got any fragile items, then you might need to get creative. Cushion the items by placing them inside your sneakers or a pair of socks.
Also, you can reduce the chance of breakages to your compacts of eyeshadow and foundation with sponges and tissue paper.
Definitely, don’t pack compacts at the bottom of your luggage. They won’t be much use when they’re smashed up.
6. Separate Brushes From Makeup
Also, don’t keep your blenders and brushes in the same bag as your makeup.
Your brushes will be covered in makeup, which renders them useless tools. You could also crush and ruin the bristles of the brushes if they’re bunched together with other items.
If you want to avoid damaging your best brushes, only take makeup which can be blended in with your fingers. This saves you space and worries while you’re travelling.
7. Makeup Essentials in Your Carry-On
You don’t have to store all your makeup essentials in your luggage.
If you’re travelling by plane, you’re also permitted to carry one resealable plastic bag with you on the plane. Each liquid items need to be in under 100ml measured containers.
Therefore, if you’re going to require any of your essentials on the flight, you’ll need to keep these closeby.
You might want to redo your concealer mile high or moisturize your lips with balm if they start feeling dry.
If the worse possible scenario happens – your bag gets lost – you’ll also have your most important makeup items with you.
8. Clean Your Makeup Bag After Use
When you return from your vacation, it’s tempting to pore your remaining makeup back into your makeup drawer.
However, you’ll notice that your makeup bag is an absolute mess. Even if you organized your items perfectly, you can’t keep everything tidy forever.
Instead of allowing the fabric to absorb the colors of the makeup, wash the bag ready for your next travel trip. Your future self will be thankful.
9. Go Barefaced
You’re going on vacation where nobody knows you. This is an opportunity to go barefaced for a change.
If you’re going somewhere warm and sunny, you should be putting on sunscreen every day to protect your skin. Do you really need makeup on top of this?
