5 Worst Things For Your Teeth

When it comes to your teeth, they are a direct reflection of what you eat. If you have teeth that frequently have issues, then it’s time to start asking yourself whether it’s time to start making changes.

There are many foods and beverages that cause an excess of plaque and, in turn, damage your teeth. There are also habits that will wear down on your teeth over time if done in excess. Take a look at some of the worst things for your teeth and how you can avoid them.

Ice

One of the biggest misconceptions that people have about ice is that it’s made of water, so it must be harmless to chew, right? Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Chewing on any hard substances, whether it’s made of water or pure sugar, can end in a dental emergency that sends you to the dentist.

Paying for a crown is expensive, and the procedure is painful. Do yourself a favor and let the ice in your beverage melt instead of chewing it. Even though it might be tempting to chew on the small pieces remaining, don’t do it! It’s not worth it!

Grinding Your Teeth

If you lead a stressful life, then you may be susceptible to grinding your teeth throughout the day. Some people aren’t even aware of when they’re doing it. Unfortunately, it’s not only bad for your teeth but also your jaw.

If you notice that your teeth feel loose or painful, it’s time to look into getting a mouthguard to prevent further damage.

Citrus

Although fruits are good for your health, some fruits are better in moderation. Citrus fruits like oranges, limes, lemons, and grapefruits may be tasty, but they are full of acid. The acid in these fruits will erode the enamel on your teeth ver time and make your mouth more susceptible to decay.

If you eat or drink citrus frequently, make sure that you rinse your mouth out afterward.

Dried Fruits

Even though dried fruits make a great alternative to candy, they are incredibly sticky and tend to wedge themselves in our teeth. They are full of sugar and make your teeth more vulnerable to cavities. Dentists recommend opting for fresh fruit rather than dried if you can.

Smoking

Smoking isn’t just bad for your teeth aesthetically, as it turns them yellow, but it will also make your mouth vulnerable to disease. The chemicals found in tobacco products also affect your saliva levels, making it easier for bacteria to stick to your gums and teeth.

By avoiding these things and brushing regularly, you can steer clear of common dental problems. In addition to brushing, you should also regularly floss, and you should stay out of dental trouble!
