With the current pandemic requiring social distancing, gatherings such as birthday parties are a no-no. So, how can you celebrate a loved one’s birthday while social distancing?

Current social distancing rules prohibit people from gathering, and unfortunately, a birthday party can be considered as a mass gathering. However, just because we’re stuck at home doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate our birthdays. Here are some ways you can make your loved one feel special on their birthday even while social distancing:

1. Send customized birthday cards

Sending a store-bought birthday card is a nice way to let someone know you remembered their birthday–but why not make it more special by sending them a customized card. Look for Stampin’ Up card ideas and other sources online to find inspiration for a customized birthday card. With a few simple craft tools and nice stationery, you can create a birthday card that will surely be appreciated.

2. Have food delivered to their address

Food delivery is one of the services that are still fully operational in many cities in quarantine. Find a restaurant or shop that is in operation and order food (and pay for it) online to send to the birthday celebrant’s address. In a way, this is also a great way to help local businesses during this difficult time.

3. Host a video conference party

During this pandemic, video conferencing is the most effective way to communicate with large groups. Although it’s not quite the same as face-to-face interactions, having a video conference party is the next best thing to having a real-life party. You can even set it up as a surprise party and add the birthday celebrant to the group last.

4. Mail them a gift

You don’t have to wait for the coronavirus to disappear before sending your loved one their birthday gift. If you don’t want to send your gift in the mail, you can drive by their house and drop it off on their driveway; no physical touching required. Don’t know what kind of gift to send? Here are some birthday gift ideas that the recipient can enjoy while social distancing at home.

5. Make a birthday video

Call up the celebrant’s friends and family and have them record a video of themselves singing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song. Using a simple video editor, splice snippets of the video together to create a touching birthday video montage. You can even add videos of people saying their birthday wishes to the celebrant. This idea is cost-free and relatively easy to do but will make your loved one feel extra special on their birthday.

6. Create art

Art is another meaningful gift you can give to your loved one for their birthday. And thanks to the modern age, you can easily take pictures or scan a piece of artwork so you can send them digitally. Whether it’s a portrait, painting, or a piece of digital art–having someone make art for you on your birthday is always an excellent gift.

If a family member, friend, or colleague is celebrating their birthday during quarantine, these are the best ways you can send them your birthday wishes even while social distancing. Don’t worry; you can celebrate with them properly after this pandemic issue is over.
