Our home appliances bring us comfort and ease; they take care of us. Refrigerators keep our food fresh and crisp. Advancements in cleaning technology led to garbage disposal units, turning our food wastes into easily disposable mulch.
Roombas and other vacuum cleaners ensure our home remains dirt- and dust-free. But once they break down, it can feel like the dark ages again. We panic, call the Salt Lake City vacuum repair or whatever appliance repair team you need to your home, and then they tell you all this could’ve been prevented with regular maintenance.
As much us our home appliances bring us all these understated benefits, we also need to take care of them. These five appliances, especially, need all the tender loving care and good ol’ maintenance check they deserve.
Dishwasher
With the dishwasher, gone are the days when we all have to manually clean the dishes one by one. However, when the dishwasher itself isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do, most of the time there’s food stuck inside there. Simply remove the filter cover and use a vacuum cleaner to clean off the screen. Next time, make sure to remove all the gunk from the dirty dishes before putting them onto the dishwasher so it can be functional for a longer time.
Vacuum Cleaner
Ridding your home of dirt, dust, and other small particulates can be tiring without a vacuum cleaner. Make sure to keep your vacuum cleaner in great shape by wiping off dirt from the casing, hose, and attachments. Remove any obstruction or loose fibers from the attachments, hoses, and the exhaust ports. Also, make sure to change the bag and the replaceable filters as often as needed.
Washing Machine
Instead of washing your clothes on a tub and sun-drying them, just keep your washing machine and clothes dryer in pristine condition. Never slam the washer/dryer doors regardless if they’re a top or front load type. This will save you hundreds of dollars in just door repair bills. Also, make sure to check the washer’s hoses for any leaks or cracks. You should always replace the hoses every five years. To maintain your clothes dryer’s heating capacity, clean up its lint filter to remove any lint build-up or remove the film caused by dryer sheets.
Garbage Disposal Unit
Without the Garbage Disposal Units, our sinks will get clogged with all the gunk from our plates. Firstly, turn off the power to prevent losing a finger or two. Use a chemical or natural grease-cutting cleaner and a toothbrush to clean the splash guard of any crud, grease, and food. Clean the grinding chamber using a sponge. Clean the drain as well, using chemical drain cleaners or a vinegar and baking soda solution. To clean the disposal itself, fill it with ice cubes and add a cup of salt or vinegar and then let it rip.
Refrigerator
A broken fridge will only bring you additional headaches, especially if you’re storing a lot of perishables. Regularly clean and defrost your refrigerator and freezer to keep it in tip-top shape. You can use newspapers and charcoals to get rid of any bad smells your fridge may have. You may also need to clean the coils at least once or twice a year using a handheld vacuum. This lets the fridge keep everything cool at an optimum level.
Remember to always take your appliances every year or two to repair shops for regular maintenance. Doing routine cleaning and maintenance checks will help you save in the long run and keep your machines working at optimum for years.Don’t let your appliances break down when you need them the most.
