Believe it or not, you can live in luxury without paying millions of dollars to do so. It’ll take a couple of DIYs, and you might have to spend a few hundred dollars. But it definitely won’t cost you your entire life savings. And no one will be able to tell the difference. That said, here are a few inexpensive ways you can make your home look expensive:
- Flooring
When it comes to flooring, most luxury homes will either have hardwood, ceramic, porcelain, or marble flooring. A hardwood floor will usually cost you anywhere between 2,000 to 4,000 dollars for a 300 sq. ft. room. Ceramic, although cheaper than porcelain, can crack after a few years. Marble flooring may be the most expensive flooring there is. All of these are great options to make your home look more luxurious. But if you plan on redoing your entire floor, it won’t be good for your bank.
A cheaper alternative to all four of these is vinyl flooring. Vinyl is one of the most preferred types of flooring because it comes in plenty of designs. Including hardwood, porcelain, and even marble designs. By the time you’ve installed the vinyl onto your floor, you won’t be able to tell the difference between actual hardwood, porcelain, or marble flooring.
- Area Rugs
An area rug is a great addition to any home. When you pick the right area rug for you, it can add even more personality to your home. Make sure to choose a rug that matches the colour of your furniture. If you pick the wrong colour, it can throw everything off. If you have colourful furniture, a rug with a neutral colour is always a safe pick. If your furniture is all the same colour, say all white or all black. You can go for a bolder area rug with plenty of intricate designs, and the great thing is that there are tons of area rugs to choose from. You are bound to find one that fits right into your budget.
- Indoor House Plants
Plants are always a great way to liven up a place and make it look more luxurious, especially if you pair it with the right pots. You can always buy cheap ceramic or even plastic pots and paint them with the design you like. Here’s a list of design inspirations you can follow. You can always search the internet for plant pot DIYs.
- Centerpieces
Why not use your house plants as centerpieces or takes some freshly cut flowers from your garden as a centerpiece? Another option is to buy dried flowers and plants instead. That way, you don’t have to worry about it dying and replacing it every time. Centerpieces don’t have to be flowers or plants either. You could have candles or a basket of fruits instead.
- Throw Pillows
An empty couch can look underwhelming. Why not add a couple of throw pillows for more volume and texture? It not only makes your living room more expensive, but it also makes it look comfier. And what’s more luxurious than comfort?
- Accent Wall
An accent wall is a great way to make a room look expensive without spending much cash. Paint one of your walls a bold colour. Why not take some inspiration from one of the colours of 2021?
- Tile Backsplash
A tile backsplash is always a great way to make your home look more expensive. But you don’t have to get real tiles applied. There is plenty of faux stick-on tile backsplashes available online. Applying it isn’t that difficult either. If you want a perfect fit, measure your backsplash, and cut out any excess tiles.
- Landscaping
A beautifully landscaped garden screams expensive. But it doesn’t have to be expensive. The average landscaping done by a professional can cost around 300 dollars. You can spend anywhere between 0 to 100 dollars landscaping your garden yourself.
- Art
Can’t afford real art? You can always visit the nearest Walmart or Target for cheap wall art. Or you could take a spin with abstract art and create your own. DIY abstract art has become a trend on social media lately. Who knows, you might even be able to mimic a Jackson Pollock painting.
- Built-ins
You can create your faux built-in by placing a floor to ceiling shelf onto one of your walls. There is plenty of inexpensive floor to ceiling shelves on Amazon. Prices range from 30 to 200 dollars.
Aside from adding all these decorations, simply tidying up around your home can already make it look luxurious. Another way to make your home expensive and good as new is by replenishing instead of replacing. Adding a fresh coat of paint, polishing doorknobs, and cleaning up around the house. These make a big difference without having to spend big money.
